Gimme A Name – Poll + Suggestions – ONE NIGHT…

Ok readers-mine, I need a name for the King of Texas in One Night.   None was ever mentioned in True Blood and Idc to look through the SVM mess to see if one was ever listed (a brief i’net search never revealed one, fwiw), so…

The King of Texas’ name is…hell if I know.  Hence:  POLL TIME!  There’s no timer on the poll (since I’m not sure how to put one on it) but you’ve got 24 hours (cause the next chapter is clicking right along already):

Thank you for your cooperation help.  Coffee and cookies are available at the exits.

  1. mlearegood: That’s what I’d thought, too…until I researched it. As far as SVM is concerned, come to find out we’re both right…sort of.

In SVM, Stan Davis was the vampire Sheriff of Dallas who does, eventually, become King of Texas much later in the book series (wiki says in book 7), but during this “time frame”, he’s not the king (yet) – still just a Sheriff. It’s annoying that the ‘current’ king’s name wasn’t ever given (that I can find at least).

But in TB (where I’m basing the majority of this story), Stan’s just Godric’s mouthy, aggressive lieutenant and to my knowledge no name for the king of Texas was ever given there, either. Ugh! So now I gotta pick’a name, dammit…

  4. Decebal. The meaning is “strong, brave”. This was the name adopted by Diurpaneus, a king of the 1st century of Dacia. For many years successfully he resisted Roman expansion in its territory but was finally defeated by the forces of Emperor Trajan in 106.

  5. Adrian O brien, deacon, carter.dorian gray you could play it off as he made up the story.that everyone thought he sold his soul because he never aged and never looked at his picture.or maybe the picture was of him and his mate who died.

  7. Well I kinda was thinking that because it is Texas that maybe a Spanish name might be good but then I thought that would be too obvious. So maybe a very un Spanish name would be good. So how about Paddy O”Leary?

  8. Go with a wimpy name like like Percival (Percy for short) or Herbie as an opposite to his actual character? I’m assuming he’s a right tough guy so those who come at him might get a snicker from the name and assume he’s an easy take down only to discover he’s studied with the best and is actually very formidable.

  9. Anton Petrov – made up name, but he could be written as the nephew to Tsar Nicholas I of Russia who died in 1918 ( so that would make Anton’s human life early 1900 )

  10. Texas has had six flags flown over it. You have a great background to pick a name from.. Spain, twice, France twice, the Republic of Texas a country, United States and the Confederacy.

Sam Houston was twice the president of the Republic of Texas. My favorite presidential name from Texas is Maribeau B. Lamar. He was also Sam Houston’s vice president His first time in office.

Houston is a tough looking old bird. He was also a governor, and a senator of Texas. Before that he was in Tennessee politics.

The Six flags over Texas are Spain, France, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, the United States and The Confederate States of America (The South, The Confederacy). Spanish rule started in the 1500s..

Don’t forget that Texas history also has the Hoggs. Ima Hogg is one of the most famous, currently. She was the governor’s daughter, Gov. Jim Hogg. Texas mythology gives her a sister named Ura. Only Ima is real.

Rollo the first ruler of Normandy, France. He was Viking. And that is were the names Normans comes from.

I personally would make up a silly French name. So much fu n.

  11. Stan Davis ended up being the king in the SVM books. He wasn’t initially, and how he ended up that way was never explained, so chalk that up to another one of CH’s continuity errors. Even with two ‘continuity people,’ she managed to make more errors than a high school kid who never studied… Hell, I could bitch about her lack of all things in fiction writing all night, and I’m sure all of us could, but redundant, redundant, redundant. It’s your story, name your king whatever the hell you want! I liked the Sebastian Alexander name though. Sounds majestic! Go for it! 🙂

  17. dragonfey57: And that, my friend, is the crux of the matter – it truly IS so much fun! When creating characters and the names to go with them, you have the entirety of all of human (albeit sometimes questionable…) history to choose from, to allude to, or to create from. The options truly are endless!

  18. LOL! Some days I have doubts if she would even know how to look it up… Argh! Really shouldn’t be so hard on the old dame. She did give us this wonderful characters to play with, after all, but I don’t know… She has a new book coming out; apparently she returned to the Aurora Teagarden series, so I give her another 5 years until she returns to the SVM. Mo’ money…
