Fucking hearts.

Eric looked down into her eyes, his gaze confused, slightly troubled.

“What changed your mind,” he finally asked, his tone a little colder than he’d meant. In all the time he’d known her, she never ceased to amaze him whether it was with her generosity or her stupid decisions.  Usually the one was caused by the other.

Common sense was never her strong suit.

He needed to know which one had lead her to the here and now. He needed to know if he could believe this or not.

“It’s you, Eric. It’s always been you.”  Her eyes, guileless as usual, beseeched his understanding.

“What do you mean?”  Mentally cursing his own curiosity about all things Sookie, he could feel himself falling, yet once again, into the spell she so easily cast on his heart.

Fucking hearts.

“I mean that for the longest time now I’ve either been running toward or away from you, but I’m tired,” she said, her voice winding down, her shoulders sagging.

“Tired of what, exactly?” He would love to believe her, was already memorizing her words and scent for future times, but how long would she mean these words he so desperately wanted to believe?

How much of this did she mean, and how much of this did she only mean “now”?

  1. charity6201: Thank you – she so did. I usually got the impression that she never did it on purpose, but no matter how “accidentally” you stab someone with a knife, shit’s still gon’ hurt!

  2. What she said ^

Sookie was so concerned with what everyone else thought of Eric she didn’t take the time to see him for herself. Yet there was Sam screaming his head off about Bill but would she listen?

  3. outinritefield: Sookie tends to annoy the piss out of me. And, while I can ABSOLUTELY see her feeling burned over Bill, why did she have to just KEEP on punishing Eric for Bill’s fuck-ups? Why did she have to automatically expect Eric to treat her like Bill did? I can definitely see being wary, sure, but dang, she could have at least opened her fucking eyes once in a while!

  4. to be honest, Sookie is my least favorite character. so indecisive and just plain childish. eric deserves so much better. stringing someone along as much as Sookie has been doing to Eric is undignified, narcissistic and just outright rude.

  5. galwidanatitud: That’s one of the reasons I wrote that bit in a fit of frustration with how she was portrayed so often. I mean, I get that she was raised by an old hypocritical church-a-holic in a small-minded small town, but dang…ugh… *deeeeep breaths*

  7. secretnerdprincess: Awwww, have a little faith – I’ve left it open for exactly that reason. (I somehow wrote that for one of my other stories – the tides just went that way – but the mood was so bitter-melancholy that upon re-read I clipped it FAST, but because I can absolutely see where “this” Eric is coming from, I couldn’t toss it, and may in fact use it further at some point.)

  8. Canon Sookie likes to see herself as the savior of all, going around ‘helping’ and ‘fixing ‘ which is really a cover for how deeply selfish and self centered she is. She sees Eric as the selfish self centered one, when it is truly her. They are both so busy trying to maintain their hype they have built of themselves and what others expect of them the truth never slips out. How many times have we read ‘what would Gran think’ ? She never puts together what a hypocrite that little lady was and just continues the family’s tradition of overcompensating.

  9. Kittyinaz: Lol, you didn’t miss it – I quietly tucked it in there after I cut it from another story and didn’t post it. If I remember correctly, it’s exactly as it was when I cut it, but it just happens to end so that it could go either way, so the reader can decide for themselves if they want that Eric and that Sookie to be together or not.

  10. motomary: She does – Sookie loves flouncing around inflicting her help on all and sundry so she can be “look at me bein’ all helpy and wonderful!” when in reality she never bothers stopping to think about what she’s doing, why she’s doing it, or whether someone even WANTED her fairy-nose stuck in their business. And, because he never makes a big “look at me” deal over it, she never sees that Eric is the one who actually IS helpful (for the most part and often in his own way).
I am so loving exposing Gran’s blatant, hurtful hypocrisy in STC. I got so sick of Sookie mooning over Adele’s antiquated, trite, and often seriously stupid advice and opinions.
Rant on, gorgeous – there’s plenty of room!
