(And now, Godric’s thoughts)

.

Godric savored the sound of his beloved’s warm heart beating in the safety of his arms, and hoped she was not unduly distressed by the day death soon to overtake him.  He inhaled her warm scent deeply, and detected not only the heady scent of their recent joinings, but the odor of the hormones changing within her body.  He smiled wryly even as he held her even closer to him.  According to his meager understanding of such things, he was truly lucky she had been as calm as she had been during parts of their previous discussion.  The next week could prove to be very…interesting.  With a devious grin, he contemplated just how very interesting the coming nights would be.

During his day…  He halted the onslaught of the few memories he still retained of his human times.  In truth, he had gained more humanity during his last couple of centuries as a vampire than he had ever possessed as a true human.   Everything was so blessedly different now, and in so many ways.

He nuzzled into his Cara’s hair, and savored the calming, grounding effects of her softly scented warmth.

While he would never lie to her about either his human or vampire past, there were some truths he would always choose to withhold.   But even so, she needed to know that some vampires absolutely could be the monsters village idiots like the FOTS thought them to be, and were oftimes even worse, but he would always be on his best behavior around her, and would demand the same of those who served him.

However much he wanted to protect her from the worst of his world, for her own security she needed to be aware of at least some of the risks associated with the more violently macabre of his kind.

He wished he could have told her more this night about the plots he sensed and the precautions they would need to take to ensure their safety, but he was extremely pleased with how well things had gone…all things considered.   He would make time to discuss these situations with her as soon as he could.  At least now he would not have to resort to kidnapping her for her own safety.

As far as he could sense, she needed protection from at least three different potential dangers.  He pondered the Were offensive, the one danger she was aware of, and considered who was behind it.   Soon after the coming nightfall, he intended to extract what information he could from the Weres in his custody.  His deep blue eyes glowed as he hoped their continued stay in that particular facility encouraged their willingness to talk.

His suspicions were slowly building, but he refused to show his hand before he had not only more proof, but also a full list of the players involved.  The second and third dangers were more nebulous, and involved the Council, their plans, his own plans, and the necessary discrepancies between the two.

While his enemies hidden both within the Council and, externally, within the vampire royalty of the Americas, were potentially numerous, now was not yet the time to strike. Too many investigations had to be completed, and much more groundwork had to be laid.  At least his plans were slowly falling into place, as were his spies and other supporters.  He would need to contact his most trusted allies, but not yet.  He hated playing waiting games, but knew well the benefits of such strategies.

He found himself lightly stroking the silky skin of her arm, moving so softly that it would not wake her.  Touching her, being in some sort of physical contact with her, was now an acknowledged obsession.  But he would not wake her.  He was quickly realizing just how reticent she was about discussing any sort of emotions, well, her own at least.  Although much progress had been made, this night had not been easy for her.

Her fear and insecurities ate at him, and there was a certain wistfulness he sometimes sensed from her that chipped at his heart.

Smiling sadly, he realized that his Cara was still every bit as much of an enigma as the day he met her.  There was something distinctly more about her, something…”other”.  Even the irascible Dr. Ludwig had commented on it, but without a reason to take her blood, which he refused to authorize, she had no guess as to what Cara was.

It did not matter, though.

That he had accidentally begun their bonding surprised him less than he thought it should, and he wondered if perhaps his subconscious were more at fault than he realized.  The knowledge that they had shared blood, that his blood was living in her veins just as her blood lived in his, soothed and appeased the magnificent, feral beast living just below the surface of his control.

He wished he could have made their first bonding more ceremonial, that he had given the blood exchange the reverence both Cara and the bond deserved. Then he decided that, in the end, it also did not matter.

She was here, she was his, and he was hers.

**Ok, dear readers, this is the end of Anticipating .  I realize this might seem rather sudden, but the “mission” for this story (the emotional and physical connection between Godric and Cara)  has been achieved.   I really hope you liked this story as much as I loved writing it, and would love to hear your opinions about the story as a whole.  **sniff**  I’m kind of emotional as this is my first fic! **more sniffing**

I am considering writing a sequel, but I’d like to know what you think.  Is there more of their story to be told?  DO you want a sequel?  And if so, what questions do you want answered?

Your support through this process has been overwhelming and so very much appreciated.  I love that so many of you have taken the time to read and respond to this story.  I feel like we’ve taken a huge trip together and should share pizza and anecdotes!  😀

Now, I’m also considering several other stand-alone “Godric and Cara” stories as well.  I love my Cara, and I want to investigate other ways that she and Godric can get together. (See the *Godric and Cara* post here for more information.)**

What say you?

  2. We still have not found out what Cara’s difference is! You could probably dangle that carrot in front of us for YEARS! I, for one would follow happily. I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing more of the inner Andre either.
I think Godric and Cara deserve at least a sequel, if not several out takes.
    Great story.

  3. Awwww – thanks!! There are quite a few things I’d like to cover in a sequel (and I LOVE the idea of some out-takes…that is, if I ever leave anything out to post later, lolol!), and because the list is so long, and Ant. is ALREADY 41 chapters…I figured now was a GREAT time to pause, lol.

Oh, I’m not nearly done with dearest unsweetened Andre just yet! 😀

  8. 🙂 the difference between plots and subplots is sometimes minute!

I have to say, i have thoroughly enjoyed the ride! Like, Really. Really Really!!! And I am absolutely ecstatic that they finally got together, And got things sorted. Woohoo.

I have to say that I am surprised that at least the were attack wasn’t explained. That seemed to be a major plot point. But as you have already mentioned a sequel, woohoo 🙂 and that means we’ll get to know what the heck she is? Right?

  9. The attack on Isabel? *evil grin*
The attack at Cara’s place? Just to kill her since she was a witness.

The sequel…it’s in my mind…there are notes on my computer…but I need to finish Andre first. 😉

Very glad you enjoyed it! 😀

  10. Since you’ve already been working away on sequels before I read this lovely story, you may see some repeat questions.
first of all, fabulous story! If I didn’t already have a crush on Godric it’s now an obsession! 🙂 I love Cara, strong, flawed but knows her own mind.
So what’s the deal with her differences? Why can’t she be glamoured? Will Godric get to integrate the weres for more answers?
I think Andre is calling my name. ..thank you for yhe fantastic tale!

  11. FairytaleAmber: 😀 Thanks!! And, yup, there are several questions that will be answered in the sequel, and probably more questions answered that you don’t even know you have yet, lol! Thanks for reading, and I hope you like Andre!

  12. I think a sequel would be wonderful. I love that they finally realized their love for each other and agreed to be together, but there are a lot of unanswered questions. Btw, I love the model/actess you chose to be Cara. She’s adorable.

  13. murgatroid98: Thank you!! After I finish up The Revealing of Andre (hint…nudge…wink) I’ll be starting on the sequel.

And yeah, she’s the only actress I could think of who would even remotely remind me of Cara. 😀

  14. Definitely needs a sequel. We need to know what cara is and what it will do to her psyche and possibly their relationship. Not that godrics feelings would change but how she deals with it could effect them. If also love to see eric and sookie come for a visit. Cara and sookie can gossip and they can help sort out the threats to the happy couple. Can’t wait for more.

  15. suzymeinen: There’s definitely a sequel in mind.

That being said, if you liked this story and plan on reading that sequel (it’ll be a while, so you’ve got time), now would be a great time to start in with The Revealing of Andre…

There’s some E/S from the late-middle chapters onward, so that would help… 😀

  16. So I sat down with my bucket of popcorn and True Blood drink to read this and got about 2 paragraphs in to realize I already read it a long time ago all the way through! I skimmed through the chapters to make double sure! I guess it was one of the first fics I ever read awhile back on another website! So sorry I didn’t leave reviews the first time I read it. I’m an asshole! So I’ll make this one a long well thought out one since you deserve that much! Your story line was so intriguing with them meeting by Cara saving Isabel. I loved how he watched her on his cameras from his sleeping chamber, caused her to have dreams about him (naughty Godric), and your lemons were just great! The whole him sitting on the edge of her bath tub when she woke up was pretty dang hot! I really loved everything about this story so I can’t say that enough. Do you have any other long Godric stories besides Decisions and Anticipating? I’m in a Godric sort of mood lately and your stories are good! I’m hoping you have a sequel to Decisions or are planning one in the future since a sequel for that has so much potential! I really loved unstable darker feral Godric because it was different than anything I read before and umm pretty sexy too! Also, I put a link back to Decisions and a review on my website and I’m going to do the same for this story! It’s under my favorite stories section if you want to read it!

  17. americanandroid01: (steals your popcorn) Thank you – that’s so sweet!!!

Anticipating was the first fic I had ever written (and I cringe when I think of all the errors I’ve probably missed and all the mistakes I probably made in it).

When I finish Andre, I’ll start on the sequel to Ant (huge hint there, btw…), and I don’t know if I’ll have a sequel to Decisions or not – it’s still in progress, only, Madame Muse has been whispering about some of the other fics just now. I’ll get back to it, though (Thinking about bribing her flighty butt w/ popcorn!)

Ant’s Godric was cool, calm, and collected until he had to be otherwise then he could kick some major ass. Decision’s Godric is indeed different. I adore that tinge of feral, of lack of restraint that borders on all-out chaos.

  18. Also now that I know Decisions is still in progress I will now bug you often to resume it 😀 But I do know what it is like when your muse is pulled to other stories! I am very giddy to know there will eventually be more of it! I was clawing at the walls for another chapter when he flew off into the night with her.

  19. americanandroid01: I have this awesome image in my head that they’re still flying around, maybe she’s dozed off in his arms, warm because of the blanket, and he’s all “grinnin’ feral” over it all… 😀

  20. Noooo! You ended it?! I mean, I know there’s some side stories but how dare you take away my fix – even before you knew it would be my fix! How dare you! I suspect I’ll be devouring those side-shots and while I saw you ask about a sequel, I don’t know if you ever wrote one so my vote – late as it is – is for yes. Gimme more, more, more!

  21. Bertie Bott: First, let me say THANK YOU!! I have loved reading your comments 😀 Second, there will be a sequel…once I finish The Revealing of Andre (yes, *that* Andre, lol). The sequel to Anticipating will also be the sequel to Andre…if I ever finish Andre then, you know, *mumble* write said sequel…

In a way I want to hide Anticipating – it’s the first fanfic I ever wrote and I dread like crazy going back and rereading it when I start on the sequel because I know it’s probably drowning in embarrassing newbie errors…but I’m also still to this day pleased as punch that I actually DID that, so it’s a fun Catch 22, lol. I’m very glad you liked it, though, and while reading Andre is by no means necessary for that sequel, Andre’s not a bad guy…not really…much… 😉

  23. This was a good ending to a well-written, delicious, lemony story with mystery in making, plots to be unraveled in the sequel. I completely understand the logic here (the same way I ended Put Me First): now that the two main characters have come to an understanding, a new story should be told, one in which I hope we finally get to spend more time with Eric (now I know where that brow-arching of his comes from) and Sookie. I suspect Gervais has something to do with the Were attacks on Isabel and later for destroying Cara’s home. I wonder if it’s possible at all to tell from the V-Weres blood whose V they have actually taken?… Anyway, I know you’ll masterfully plot out and solve all these puzzles, and I can’t wait for the sequel to commence. Happy writing to you and your muses, and thank you for taking us on this emotional roller coaster with Cara and Godric.

  24. AlphaEN: Thank you, I really appreciate that. Funny thing about this one – I started it with only the vaguest outline in mind, and that outline went quickly by the wayside. I rarely had much of an idea of what I wanted for any ‘next’ chapter, much less future actions, so for the most part I was flying by the seat of my pants here, lol. But…I knew when I hit the ending point. Godric and Cara were together – they had that strong foundation they would need to progress in their blended world, so mission accomplished. When I started Ant I had no idea that there would be a sequel, much less a sequel that included another story I had no clue I would write at the beginning of this one, lol, but…yeah. The sequel will Andre and his Emma in it, but there will be a LOT of Eric and Sookie, too, with a sprinkling of Pam, plus other characters as well. It’s good for beloved Makers to spend time with beloved progeny.

I can honestly say that it’s going to suck butt when I go back to read this, though. Rereading my own scribblings is an exercise in torture b/c I will invariably find things I want to change, tighten up, reword…ugh. Terror… 😉

  25. I suppose for the first fanction, you were figuring out the writing process to begin with, what you wanted to achieve in the story, and where your characters were leading you. You were learning as you went on, but I don’t believe it’ll suck for you to go back and re-read the story, although you might end up reevaluating some of the aspects (again, speaking from my own experience) which doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with the story as is. For example, you might feel differently about it being a slow-burn. Maybe it seemed that way because it was being posted a chapter at a time?… While Cara and Godric don’t end up in bed after their first couple of meetings, the tempo of their relationship is rather rapid. Only two weeks (if I’m not mistaken) lapses since Cara begins working for Godric. This could actually give you interesting avenues to explore in the sequel. They know little about each other; they have never had a real date; they need to find some sort of balance between his duties and her… being fired, etc., etc., so there’s plenty for them to work on (see, now you really have no choice but to write the sequel) – all that in addition to the outside world where someone is trying to do serious harm to Godric and his peeps. And, of course, I’d love to read me some happy Eric/Sookie. So, come on, now, hug the keyboard or put it under your pillow and think of something positive. Like coffee 😉

  26. AlphaEN: True. Lol, at the time I was accustomed to fanfics where The Couple seemed to always manage to growlingly and gaspingly merge their sex parts during the first half-dozen chapters, a thing I did sooo not see happening for Godric and Cara (because that set-up was usually so unrealistic and partially nauseating that I just could NOT do that to my characters).
From the little I’ve planned of the sequel, I know there’ll be shocks, drama (no angst!), and…humor. There’ll be some getting-to-know-yas between Cara and her Godric, Emma and her Andre, and possibly a bit between Sookie and her Eric, too. (Those scenes are always fun!)
As I’m wrapping up the last chapter and the epilogue to Andre, I’m carving out some plots for Attaining (the bless’d sequel I keep mentioning), so that helps.

  27. *taps mic* hello? can you hear me? I have not left a comment in a year or two, so please forgive my rusty-ness. I know life has been kinda kicking you in the teeth so I wanted to let you know that when life is treating me badly (2017 has been a monster for me) I find that the joy I get from escaping into one of your stories is unmatched by most anything else. I love this Cara and Godric tale and have enjoyed about 5 or 6 times since I first discovered it.
My thanks to you for the escape from real life you give me, and many other readers, and my wishes for you that the rest of this year will treat you gently.
    Best,

  28. Teresa: *sends best albeit rusty ‘and where have you been??’ glare heavily laden with sympathetic nods and hugs* WTF is up with 2017?? Srsly, who did we piss off?? *sigh* I hope things are improving on your end finally, and if my stories help in any way, I’m thrilled to hear it. My motivation is currently lost somewhere along the wayside (if you find it, do send it this way), but I’m hoping to get back into my WIPs sooner than later. (Have you checked out “One Night”? There’s no Cara, but while it’s an E/S-centric fic, Godric is hanging around a lot, too. He plays air guitar sometimes…)
Good luck, and I do hope things are evening out on your end. ❤
