STATUS-Y STATUS OF THINGS REQUIRING A STATUS (aka: Update)

Normally I wouldn’t complain about crap like this to y’all who have by far better things to do than listen to me whine, but I figured (according to PMs, emails, etc…) that some of you kind-ass’d folks might be wondering just where the hell I am.  Therefore, to dispel the (non-existent) rumors, I’m checking in to let y’all know that I have not (yet) fallen off the face of the earth (hush, I can hear you).  I have, however suffered a slight injury of mysterious but painful origin to the last joint of my right hand ring finger.   To make matters even more exciting/whine-worthy, I somehow decided to acquire a splinter – a RECALCITRANT, INVISIBLE splinter – in  my left index/pointer finger just for funsies!  (sarcasm)

My typing fingers appear to be revolting against me.  It seems they are not a fan of my word spewage, ouchy little bastards.  I’m glaring at them mightily (and somewhat condescendingly) as I “hunt and peck” on the keyboard even as I, well, hunt and peck.   Thankfully I give good glare.

(FWIW:  I also apparently have nerves reactivating below an ANTIQUE, ANCIENT scar – ok, so I made the scar when I was in, like, 5th? grade when I accidentally sliced through the meaty side of my palm with a pocket knife.  What used to be numby is now alluvafuckingsudden painful in short but loud {my bad} bursts.)

Anyway, this is just to let y’all know that I haven’t forgotten about you luscious delectable (and rather brilliant) readers-mine, that I haven’t (yet) disappeared from this mudball of a planet…that I’m still around…and that I’m currently whining with surprising efficiency.    I also give good whine.

Thank you for your time.  You may now return to your regularly scheduled whatevs.   I’m going to go whine some more.

(I have, however, perfected the art of dunking Danish butter cookies in my coffee, so that’s a delicious plus!)

  1. Wow! One of those things would be tolerable but all at the same time is too much! Drop the mic and walk off the stage! Find some way to get some phalange therapy and get better soon!

  2. Ah man! It’s hell gettin’ old! LOL! Just kiddin’! I feel for ya! Scar tissue hurts, and then when those joints start hurting? Ouch! I deal with this daily so I can give you lots of tips! Advil, a gel to rub on your joints (I just use mine as overall hand cream now), and then there’s always the take-me-away pills… Advil’s better! Can’t help you with the splinter though except maybe you could soak that hand? Whine all you want! You’re in pain. Whine with some wine! I hope all is well soon! 🙂

  3. I feel your pain 😦 Hoping that all foreign objects lodged in your body are evicted herewith 🙂 That your mysterious ailments ‘mysteriously’ disappear & services return to their normal channel. Get well soon, we miss you. 🙂

  4. So sorry to hear about this! I get occasional problems with arthritis in a couple joints and it makes keyboards a real challenge. What you describe sounds worse (and you are too young for arthritis!). Best wishes- and selfishly hoping you are better soon.

  5. Whine away! I live with fibro so I know exactly how much it bloody hurts when scar tissue/nerves/muscles cause added problems. I’m wondering if the splinter is a trapped nerve – I get that so much with fibro and it does feel like having a splinter. My FIL swears by soaking splinters out with Epsom salts but I have no idea if it actually works! People will probably hate me for this but you shouldn’t be trying to type at the moment – sorry guys! Typing will just aggravate it more. The heat will also make it worse (as does cold). I’ve always wondered what Advil was so I just googled it – yes Ibroprofen is bloody brilliant if you can take it. I hope you get some relief soon – now rest those fingers whilst your sense of humour is still working!

  6. msbuffy: I think I injured the mean knuckle while shuffling boxes around in the basement? Sprung that li’l fkr somehow & it’s *mad*. Advil has been wonderful, & varying ice and heat helps, too. Just hoping the REST of that damn splinter would work its way out…digging for it just made me squeak. *still glaring*

  7. Natsgirl: 😦 Very sorry to hear about the arthritis. 😦 I’m just glad mine’s an injury so in theory when it goes away, it won’t come back (non-hurty fingers crossed). Thanks!

  8. I was wondering where ya disappeared to, my pretty! Sorry to hear about your fingers. I know they hurt and hope they heal quickly. I miss seeing you around and I send ya love!

  9. northmanherondale: The paste is a wonderful thing! Used it under a plaster overnight, think it helped some. Dug around the next day and got more of it out. The rest will just have to work out I guess, very sore – right at the tip of that finger! 😦 May try more paste tonight? Can’t hurt 😀

  10. anem72: Fibro is a pure unadulterated bitch, very sorry about that. Tried Magnesium Sulphate paste (Ep. salt paste) and it seemed to help draw it up some. Advil/ibuprofen is awesome! (My sense of humor apparently lives in a world all its own, but at least it knows me there…and typing these replies is excruciatingly slow going, btw, but at least I currently have 6 fingers and 2 thumbs that still like me…for now…) 😀

  11. Glad to hear it does actually work, my FIL has been recommending it to me for anything and everything for 23 years! I wish I could take Ibuprofen, would make life soooo much easier. I’ve learnt a sense of humour is definitely the remedy for anything lol. I tried using voice recognition when my hands were killing but voice control definitely wasn’t designed with my accent in mind, it took longer to correct the errors than type it with painful hands. I hope you’re resting those fingers now!

  12. Ouch! You know you’re not supposed to dig for those suckers, right? Of course we only find out the hard way… That is, after we’ve dug too far and we have to go somewhere to get a professional to get the damn things out and they tell us not to do that… I’m glad that the Advil & all has been helping! We would all miss you very much! Be careful moving those boxes around! (It’s also easy to break toes that way… Not that I’d know…)

  14. anem72: Even my doctor has said Epsom Salt is a great foot soak, and I know a lot of people have a magnesium deficiency – and if you’re prone to spending a lot of time indoors, check out Vit. D deficiency, too. (It might come in handy, also, for you to do some research on foods that cause inflammation, and foods that help to neutralize inflammation…) Voice recognition software has a long ways to go…

  15. msbuffy: Ouch for broken toes! Hands feel a bit better but still taking it easy. I don’t trust those fingers… (And have you ever noticed that when you unpack a box to see what all’s in it – because you don’t remember the things you listed on the contents label – that all the unpacked won’t go back into the box right and you have this/that left over that used to fit in the box but now won’t because everything took a too-deep breath?)

  16. motomary: Love hearing home remedies! It seems to be healing now (or, rather, lulling me into a false sense of security…), but if it proves false, I’ll definitely try it. Thanks!

  17. valady1: Thanks! Things feel a bit better today, but I know my body…it likes to lull me into a false sense of security…so still taking it very easy. ❤

  18. My father in law was havng trouble shaking off celulitis last year and he visited an alternative therapy doctor who suggested using ep salts as well as giving him something to detox his system. No kidding it cleared most of it up within 10 days! I teased him so much as he’s spent years raving about it but didn’t try it himself before paying a fortune for someone else to tell him! I suspect the epson salts had more to do with clearing his leg than whatever was in the tablets (no ingredients list was provided). Always make sure you drink more water if you’re using them though.

I have to take a-z plus minerals, Vit D/Calcium mix and B compound (all twice daily) and have B12 injection every 3 months as I can’t absorb vitamins from foods – hell even if I could there is very little I can actually eat! I always feel better for being out in the sun though – nothing really replaces the real thing. I just don’t have the energy most the time or the pain is too much. Then there’s the fact I can’t cope with too much heat! I love Spring and Autumn when it’s warmer but not hot – especially in England lol.

There’s a Scottish comedy show called Bournistoun with a clip where they use a voice recognition lift. My son often shares You Tube clips with me and after this one we tried saying Eleven on the Google search. OMG it was hilarious. I’ve added the link if you want to see it.

  19. anem72: LMAO – That was hilarious!! And I love that you can tease your FIL about the mag! Too funny! Real sunshine, hell, just being outside instead of inside, truly is good for you, but yeah, only when the accompanying issues can be mitigated. 😦 Ever thought of a “sunlight” (natural full spectrum light) lamp? I have one and while I can’t say I’ve noticed anything marked, I have to consider that the effects would be “slow loading”, lol, so how would I know?

  20. Glad you liked it! My son is a great source of funny clips. We’ve actually spent hours watching You Tube clips or Horrible History songs/stupid deaths lol. If you’ve never seen Horrible Histories then look them up – totally wasted on children! Saying that there is actually a Horrible Histories feature film called Will about to be released focussing on the time of William Shakespeare.

My FIL is an amazing man. He had his hip replaced at the end of May and is already back doing the gardening. He’s 84! During his pre-op appointments they couldn’t believe he doesn’t have any medications on prescription – apparently that’s unheard of! Although I have to say I’m in my 40’s and have a carrier bag full lol.

It’s funny you should mention the lux lamp as I’ve been doing some research on them and have finally picked one on Amazon with good reviews. I have found that they need to be very close to your face and you have to get 10,000 lux (I think that’s right) but the further away the less you get. From what I can gather 30 minutes in the morning is recommended but reviews suggest the longer you have them on the better. My husband was finally diagnosed with SAD last year (I worked that out 10 years ago lol) so it would be beneficial to him too as long as doc gives ok with his diabetes and vertigo. Worth a try for me because I had to stop taking my AD 2 months ago when they discovered those and the tramadol were making my digestive problems worse as well as the capsules blocking. From what I’ve read the difference will be noticed after you get through winter and realise you coped better! Must do wonders for their guarantee periods lol.

  21. So glad to hear that you’re doing okay, fingers aside. I’m just now checking my email and clearing it out. Proudly, most of the messages that were there were from you, lovely!!! I guess I just never deleted them when I got an update, I just went right to the story. 😀 I hope your dastardly fingers come out of their little hissy fit and get better. If for nothing else than to reduce your pain. (Although the Anticipation – see what I did there? ;D – of a new chapter does keep me going!) Sending you happy and healthy thoughts and vibes, because you can never have too many of those.

  22. anem72: Isn’t it SAD (ok, I know, bad pun…) how long it takes doctors to diagnose something we can pick up on immediately? *smh*
Can I be your FIL when I grow up? He sounds amazing! 😀
As strange as it sounds, I’ve been using my lamp as, well, a lamp. Thing puts out great light! 😀 I should probably give it more face time, though, and I never remember to do that. (Hasn’t seemed to have improved my native bitchiness, but then, nothing would…*snicker*) Glad the tummy issue cause was found, and good luck getting used to life w/o the ADs. *wishing you the best*
Is your hubby’s vertigo in any way related to fluid retention in his ears? If so, check into getting “tubes” (drainage tubes) put into his ears (normally a procedure done with small kids who have lots of ear infections from fluid accumulation). If it’s caused by HBP, tubes wouldn’t help. And I’m diabetic and there aren’t any contraindications against light therapy which, regarding the vertigo potentially caused by HBP, not only won’t raise the BP but may in fact help lower it if it’s stress-related.
Of note – even though I’m sure you’ve already researched this: starting in later August when the sun begins setting ALMOST-noticeably earlier (you really start to notice it in Sept. but starting dealing w/ it in Aug. makes the transition more seamless), make a habit of turning on more lights in the house in the early afternoons. Check into “ways to combat SAD in the elderly” – the advice may be geared more for the elderly, but it also applies to the “youngerly”, too! 😀

  23. Caitlin Struth: LMAO @ the Anticipating reference! Good one! Thanks – my silly hands have cooperated enough to let me work on the next chapter of Andre, and it’s a busy one (speaking of “Anticipating”…Andre and Ant. are prequels to what will become – at some mythical time in the future – the sequel to, well, Ant. and Andre…)(How’s that for a sly tie-in?). Been taking it slowly, though – you know how easily fingers can get all snitty…good thoughts and vibes are always welcome! 😀

  24. pmsl, you do make me laugh! I don’t have a great deal of faith in doctors with my medical history so I completely agree we work things out long before they do lol. I have a vivid picture of your house lit up like a cannabis farm now!

My hubby has just had to have hearing aids for damage done by industrial noise in navy. He was diagnosed with cochlear damage 10 years ago but couldn’t have them because he has acceptional hearing for low sound so hearing aids would have been unbearable. The consultant said that acceptional type of hearing is why he’d have been moved into sonar as the navy hearing test would identify him as a good candidate. Apparently the low level hearing is still acceptional but has come down enough the hearing aids won’t send him nuts. The vertigo is something he’s most likely always had as he was nearly shipped out of the navy for extreme sea sickness but over time he was only ill for the first few days out at sea. He had lots of tests for the vertigo but they can’t find a specific reason although he suffers bad with ezcema in the ears so who knows. He seems to go through phases where it gets bad for a while and then calms down again. He’s had to learn to get up slowly, avoid looking up and down too much, avoid flashing lights or strip lights and video games, avoid theme park rides that spin etc. My mom suffered with vertigo all her life so I’m used to it – although Mom used it as an excuse to take to her bed for a week at a time whether the dizziness had gone or not! I’d not heard of diabetes being an issue with light boxes until I looked at the one I just bought so I wouldn’t have bothered about it if it wasn’t for the warning regarding epilepsy or vertigo caused by lights. Hubby likes sunlight so I don’t think it will be an issue – he’s always preferred being outdoors. He takes anxiery meds anwyay and his BP is always sound so I think it could help a lot. All I need to do now is make him use it lol. The elderly bit made me laugh as he’s 13 years older than me so he gets loads of ‘old age’ quips from me! I’m so going to google that and show him!!!!!

  25. I know! That sucks! How did it ever go in the first place? I moved 5 times in three years and I always wondered how I ended up with more stuff each time when I kept getting rid of stuff, and how the boxes I didn’t unpack got heavier. BTW, I now have a sprained thumb so I can totally commiserate.
